Placement Tests

Pretest

If your child has studied some grammar but you are unsure how much s/he knows, you can administer the Basic Level Pretest to see how well your child has retained the information. Deciding on a minimum score to determine if you should move to the next level is not an exact science. If mistakes are made in a variety of concepts, then it would be advisable to begin at the Basic Level and, while some concepts may be review, the problem areas will be covered and will make the subsequent level easier. Posttest

If your student has done another grammar program in the past and you are fairly certain s/he already knows all the basic grammar concepts but you want to be sure that the child is ready for Winston Word Works or the Advanced Level, you can administer the Basic Level Posttest. As was mentioned above, if mistakes are made in a variety of concepts, it would be advisable to begin with the Basic Level. Both Word Works and the Advanced Level assume that the Basic Level is fully mastered before starting and there is little review.
